What is Pilates?

Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to any other fitness technique.

Developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), it targets deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out. By using a set of principles designed to improve the quality of movement, Pilates can help with prevention and recovery of a variety of sports injuries.

Pilates helps rectify muscle imbalance and flexibility. Pilates builds on the body’s core stability and balance. The perfect balance between strength and flexibility.

Body Control Pilates Association is one of the world’s most recognised and respected Pilates organisations, training teachers since 1996 and are known for pioneering the development of group matwork Pilates in the UK and beyond. They are currently the only UK training provider to offer a course that meets the requirements of both the flagship Society for the Pilates Method standard and the existing ‘Level 3 Pilates‘ .

About Jules

Jules Hardman is qualified with Body Control Pilates, the largest professional Pilates organisation outside the USA, and world leading provider of training for Pilates teachers. Body Control Pilates is widely seen as a benchmark for safe and effective teaching of the highest quality.

Jules discovered the benefits of Pilates back in 2001, when she was working as an art director for a fashion mail order company. Long hours in front of a computer, frequent long haul flights and staying in hotels, Jules found Pilates helped her to relax, improve her posture and flexibility.

Best of all she could still carry out the exercises in the comfort of her hotel room whilst away on location shoots. Jules became seriously addicted and passionate about Pilates and in 2009 when she was thinking about a change of career realised that it seemed the natural choice to spread the word and train to be a Pilates teacher. Training included anatomy and theory exams, practical assessments and supervised teaching, qualifying in September 2010.

Jules teaches a wide range of Pilates classes in Alderley Edge & Wilmslow. From Beginners to Advanced and High Intensity Power Pilates group classes, private lessons and Pilates for sports, workshops for Horse riders, Racquet sports, Skiing, Running, Cycling and Golf.

Pilates Lessons Designed For You

If you prefer to work on a one-to-one basis or a ‘duet session’ (one-to-two) with a friend, then Private Sessions are for you. Both the session format and the exercises given are tailored to suit your needs and objectives. These sessions allow for greater progression and development and are a must for anyone requiring that individual attention.

Classes For Every Stage

Pilates classes are held in small friendly, groups primarily mat-based using small apparatus – balls, bands, toning circles and foam rollers – to support and challenge you.

Core Levels

Beginners

For those who are new to Pilates or who want a gentle class focusing on the basic principles, improving posture, flexibility and strength around the joints. You will improve your core strength, reduce muscle stiffness and increase your flexibility.

Improvers

For those who have grasped good basic technique, focusing on increasing flexibility, core strength, stamina and more complex patterns of movement. Classes are matwork based including using small props to help strengthen and tone your body.

Improvers Plus

For those who want to be challenged with tougher exercises. With improved flexibility and stamina this class challenges core strength and control designed to build muscles endurance and a toned body. Classes are matwork based including using small props to help strengthen and tone your body.

Intermediate

More challenging for the core and for co-ordination. The aim is for movement to be flowing and dynamic so the body becomes evenly strengthened and toned. Classes are matwork based including using small props to help strengthen and tone your body.

Advanced

With a faster tempo and flowing transitions, working towards the 36 ‘classic’ original exercises that were designed by Joseph Pilates for execution on the mat. Modifications will be given where necessary. You will develop your Pilates technique and skills by means of a balanced, effective, total body workout – with particular focus on your core. This is a tough workout leaving you feeling strong and energised.

Specialised Classes

Reformer on the Mat

The Matwork is unassisted and is considered to be more challenging than the Reformer as it is the body working against gravity. The reformer on the mat is a great way for the more advanced body to get connected into the Powerhouse and challenge the core strength and control. Reformer on the mat adds variety and challenge to the to the workout.

High Intensity Power Pilates (HIP Pilates)

A dynamic, cardio-infused Pilates class aimed at raising the heart rate and improving functional strength. We use light weights and dynamic movement to challenge the whole body. Great for bone health and cardiovascular fitness.

Pricing Tiers
